Gretchen Ester Clower age 81 of Indianapolis passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 after a battle with cancer. She was born to Herbert and Emma Wald on May 26th, 1930. Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Rose Walton. She was a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, and active in a number of American Legion Posts here in Indianapolis and Oaklandon. She retired from AT&T having passed 30 years of service with various versions of "the phone company" She was Commander of Post 438 in 1980. Her later years were spent actively supporting Oasis as volunteer until her mobility issues made that difficult to continue. Gretchen is survived by her daughter Kathleen Lakey, grandchildren SSgt Sabrina Wescock, USAF, Michael Lakey, and great-grandson Caleb Lakey. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street from 4pm to 8pm. Service will be at 10am on Thursday May 10th, 2012. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
