Gregory Pianko

February 12, 1963 — October 16, 2023

Indianapolis

Gregory Pianko 60, of Indianapolis, passed peacefully, surrounded by his son Andrew and daughter Loren, basking in the same unconditional love he had always shown them. Born in Greensburg, PA on February 12, 1963. Greg was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Pianko.

He spent his younger years at St. Paul Elementary where he was affectionately called Porky. During Gregory’s teenage years, at Greensburg Salem High School, he spent his time as a member of the wrestling, track and football team. Greg was a Section Champion in wrestling. He threw shot put for the track team and enjoyed participating in the Fat Man Relay. Greg led the Golden Lions football team to a Sectional Championship. After graduating in 1981, he continued his football journey at the University of Georgia. In his year playing for the Bulldogs they won the Sugar Bowl. After much thought, Greg decided to continue his college football career at the University of Louisville. He stepped in as starter on the U of L offensive line at the center slot. In his 1984 game against Rutgers, it graded out as the highest performance for U of L offensive line in 7 years. He was named to the 1984 AP Honorable Mention team, 1st Team All South Independent and All Metro News second team. Gregory performed well on and off the field, and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Police Administration.

The following years of his life were spent as a devoted father. He absolutely loved spending time with his children and was a dedicated fan at soccer games and horse shows. Just as Greg had grown and blossomed as a father, he did the same as a papa. Greg took his kids and grandchildren on several trips and created cherished memories. In the later, years he went on numerous adventures (the Opera at the Met- to name one) with his partner Anita. He found happiness in being a dad, father-in-law and papa. To know him was to know his love for his family, he was one proud dad and papa!

Gregory was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Margaret Pianko and sister Rosie Pianko. He is survived by his daughter Loren (Nathan) Furr and son Andrew (Abigail) Pianko; and grandchildren Samantha, Henry and Eleanor. Brothers and sisters: Joseph (Mary) Pianko, Michael (Tama) Pianko, Margaret (Richard) Johnson, Donna (Joseph) Walton, Claudia Pianko, Antoinette (Michael) Chovanec. Lastly, but certainly not least, his loving partner of 4 years Anita Kerrigan.
