Gordon Lee Wagoner, 97, of Noblesville, Indiana, passed away on March 31, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 20, 1928, in Marion, Indiana, to parents, the late Donald Clayton Wagoner and Rhesa Jane (Plyley) Wagoner.
Gordon was raised in a close, loving, and supportive family. These formative years profoundly shaped him by instilling in him a deep commitment to family that would remain the cornerstone of his life. Gordon valued relationships with everyone he met, whether they were relatives or friends. With a generous spirit, he was quick to offer a kind word or a thoughtful gesture. Consistently, he placed the needs of others before his own. Gordon's unwavering faith in God was a guiding force throughout his life—a steadfast presence he willingly and openly shared with all those around him.
Gordon graduated from Marion High School in 1946. In 1950, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served for four years as a Staff Sergeant stationed in England. During his military service, he received both the Good Conduct and the National Defense Service medals. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Gordon pursued his degree at Butler University in Indianapolis where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Upon graduation, Gordon began his professional career at Hook’s Drug Company. He dedicated the next 30 years to working in the personnel department, eventually retiring as the Employee Benefits Director.
In 1967, Gordon married Martha, the love of his life. Their partnership became the foundation for the next 58 years, during which they created a life deeply rooted in faith and family—values that Gordon cherished more than anything else. Throughout his life, Gordon demonstrated remarkable selflessness, making countless sacrifices to ensure that his family, and friends, felt cared for, supported, and recognized for their importance in his life.
As a father, Gordon dedicated himself to his sons, Russell and Chris. He actively encouraged their growth in both faith and music which he introduced to them early on. With unwavering patience and love, Gordon helped his sons understand the importance of serving others, valuing relationships, and fulfilling their own potential.
Second only to his devotion to God was Gordon’s profound love for music. He especially cherished playing the piano at church services and family gatherings; finding joy in bringing people together through the shared experience of music. His skill at the piano allowed him to unite others in both faith and love, using music as a bridge to foster connection and understanding among those around him both as a performer and a teacher.
As a piano teacher, Gordon delighted in sharing his passion, guiding his students as they explored and developed their own musical abilities. His encouragement and support helped many grow in their musical journeys. Whenever a piano was nearby, Gordon could often be found playing it himself or ensuring that someone else who could play did. His enthusiasm for music radiated throughout his life.
Gordon enjoyed traveling, camping, playing bridge, and antiquing, but most of all, spending time with family and friends.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Martha Wagoner; sons, Russell (Richard Koons) Wagoner, and Chris (Larry Levensky) Wagoner; grandchildren, Rhys Koons Wagoner, Christopher (Lynne) Levensky, and Andrew Levensky; great grandchildren, Greyson Levensky and Gavin Levensky; “Arkansas son”, Michael Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edwin Wagoner, and his sisters, Barbara Burchard, Beverly Day, and Sue Ann Gallion.
