Gordon D. Caudill

June 8, 1947 — June 9, 2025

Indianapolis

Gordon Devon Caudill, “Mr. Original”, 78, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully and in his sleep on June 9, 2025.

Born on June 8, 1947, in Winchester, Indiana, Gordon was the beloved son of Bruce and Dorothy Caudill. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1965 and attended Butler University, where he majored in music and played the saxophone with passion. Though he left Butler before earning a degree, it was there that he began the next chapter of his life, marrying Gloria and experiencing fatherhood for the first time.

Gordon built a career in hospitality management, working in both the restaurant and liquor industries, where his charm, wit, and work ethic left a lasting impression. Known to many as “Mr. Original,” he was a man with a dry sense of humor, a quiet disposition, but with heart. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: a hearty meal, a game of euchre or poker, bowling nights, and cheering on his favorite sports teams from his living room.

In retirement, Gordon dedicated his time and resources to causes close to his heart. He supported numerous charities and nonprofits, including Riley Children’s Hospital Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Smithsonian Institute, WFYI Public Media, various national environmental organizations, and LGBTQ+ advocacy groups. His generosity and commitment to the greater good reflected the depth of his compassion and principles.

Gordon is survived by his former wife, Gloria Caudill; his children: G. David Caudill, Kristin Caudill, and Mark Caudill; his brothers: Kenric, Steven, and Richard; grandchildren: Ross, Kyle, Heather, and Ali; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Dorothy Caudill; his brother, Phillip; and his daughter, Tamara Miller.

A remembrance service will be held at 4:00 PM (Indianapolis time) on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan-Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN. Friends and family are invited to a public visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 PM prior to the service.

In honor of Gordon’s life and spirit, donations may be made in his memory to one of the charitable organizations he supported.
