Gladys Turner Whitley

GLADYS MARIE TURNER was born on March 3, 1942 to Early James and Margaret Turner in Birmingham, Alabama. When Gladys was 2 ½ years of age, the Turner family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended Grade School #23, Junior High School #17, and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1968. As a teenager, she was baptized and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Later in life she joined Oasis of Hope Baptist Church. She was a member of Dorcas Missionary. Her employment career included working at General Hospital, RCA, and Special Connection. Gladys later married Dale Williams. They resided in Lockfield Garden Apartments. To their union, Dale Jr. was born. Later in her life she moved to Los Angeles, California for one year. She returned to Indianapolis, Indiana where she married Andrew "Sonny" Whitley. To this union, Lamonte and Sonja were born. GLADYS also began her long career at General Motors where she worked 20 + years. During her career at General Motors as a Union Representative she traveled extensively residing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Fort Wayne, Indiana, as well as Bedford, Indiana. GLADYS was a fun-loving, hard-working, mother, wife, sister, and friend to many. Gladys will be truly missed. She will always remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory; sons, Lamonte E. Turner (Joyce) and Dale R. Williams, Jr.; daughter, Sonja M. Whitley-Whitted (A. Wright); grandsons, Akeem E. Turner and Blake Banks Turner; granddaughter, Lalah S. Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and friends.
