Nobelsville

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Gladys Hauk passed away peacefully June 21st, 2025.

Gladys was born January 7th, 1926, in Mississippi to parents Robert Lee and Myrtle (Chadwick) Rester.

Gladys grew up in the South, In a family with 11 children. As a young woman, she moved first, to New Orleans and worked during the War. Later, she moved to Indianapolis where she would have a family and raise two children.

She worked in purchasing, payroll and benefits at Western Electric where she met and married the love of her life Edgar Hauk. They rode to work together every day for many years and retired young, in their late 50s. They then took advantage of retirement and traveled together for many years to places like Alaska, Dominican Republic, Mexico and the Grand Caymans.

Gladys was a strong, loving lady. She loved to look her best, and was usually showcasing her favorite color- pink. She loved her pink nail polish and looked forward to her weekly hair appointment until the day she died. She enjoyed caring for her husband, Ed. She loved raising her children and helping provide a good education for them. She always said, “no one can ever take your education away from you.”

Her granddaughter was the “apple of her eye” and she enjoyed many years of playing with her on the floor, taking her to school and spending lots of “girls” nights with her.

Gladys enjoyed her neighbors in several different homes where she lived. Neighbors often became extended family members since she was so far away from her siblings. She was blessed to have many friends and neighbors who helped make her last golden years joyful and full.

She is survived by her two children, one granddaughter, and 3 siblings.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Edgar.

Gladys has been laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery, in a small private ceremony.
