Gilbert “Gil” Roy Halley, 87, of Fishers, IN, passed away on September 7, 2025. He was born on March 13, 1938, in Seattle, WA, to parents Jim and Betty Halley.
Gil graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1956. He went on to study Business Administration at the University of Washington and later earned his CPA designation.
Gil met the love of his life, Betty, in 1960 in a chance encounter when he came to visit her roommate—who wasn’t home. Instead, he asked Betty out, beginning a lifelong love story. They were married on March 17, 1962, in Seattle, WA, and shared 65 wonderful years together, raising two children, Mark Halley and Karen Gabbard.
During his career as an accountant, Gil worked at several prominent Northwest companies, including Boeing and Weyerhaeuser, before serving as CFO of Palmer G. Lewis for 16 years. After leaving PGL, he co-owned Business Service Center for 13 years before retiring in 2000.
Gil enjoyed playing soccer well into his 60s, traveling, woodworking, and especially golfing. An award-winning golfer, he was fortunate to play courses across the United States and Europe with his Gourmet Golf Club. He was named Man of the Year at Fairwood Golf and Country Club, and he and his wife, Betty, were past presidents of the Mr. and Mrs. Club at Saint Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church. His woodworking creations will be cherished by many for years to come. Gil was also a dedicated father and grandfather, rarely missing his children’s sporting events and treasuring time with his grandchildren and, most recently, his great-grandson.
He was devoted to his family and was a patient teacher to his children and grandchildren, always leading by example. Gil also gave generously of his time and talents to charitable causes, reflecting his deep commitment to helping others. His legacy of love, guidance, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Gil is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his son, Mark Halley (Terra); his daughter, Karen Gabbard (Darrell); his grandson, Ryan Hayes (Kaitlyn); his granddaughter, Megan Hayes; and his great-grandson, Daniel Hayes.
