Geraldine Giltner

November 30, 1924 — July 22, 2012

Gerri passed away on July 22, 2012 in her home on the north side of Indianapolis. She was born in Huntingburg, IN on November 30, 1924 to a family lucky enough to welcome her to the world. As she grew in Huntingburg, she enjoyed simpler times. She knew her way around farm chores as well as the kitchen, but also played a drum in her high school marching band. It was at that high school she met her lifelong love Dr. Philip Giltner. Once married, Phil joined the service and the new couple moved to Washington state where they had two sons, David and Steve. After 4 years, they returned to Huntingburg where they had their daughter Natalie. In '59 they moved to Marion where Gerri worked as a secretary for General Motors while Phil studied orthodontics at Indiana University. In '64 the young family decided to put down roots in Indianapolis and never left. Phil established a new practice, while Gerri busied herself not only with motherhood, but everything else she could manage to fit in. She was president of the New Neighbors and Co-chairman of Stansfield Circle's Fundraiser at Traders Point, as well as an active member of Kiwanis and Dental Wives of Indianapolis. Gerri joined Northminster Presbyterian Church almost 50 years ago and has been involved as a member of the choir, sunday school teacher, group leader for Tandem, a deacon and an elder. She was a lover of the outdoors and birds. She and her husband traveled to Wyoming every summer for 17 years to enjoy the wilds of the CM Ranch, where they enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, dancing, singing and spending time with all the friends they had come to love. She was also an avid bridge player and loved to prepare beautiful meals for her family. Gerri was the matriarch to her surviving family who love her so dearly. Her three children gave her 8 grandchildren, who in turn gave her 11 more great grandchildren with one on the way. Her absence will be felt hugely this year and every coming year as all who knew and loved her gather together and remember her. A celebration of her life will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church at 1660 Kessler Blvd East Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46220 on Tuesday July 24 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church. You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
