Gerald Wayne Pinkston

July 27, 1928 — March 28, 2019

Indianapolis, Indiana

Gerald Wayne Pinkston was born July 27, 1928 in Lueders, TX, to Jodie and John Dennis Pinkston. He was the second oldest and enjoyed his time with his siblings, Glen, Betty and Ronnie. He went home to be with the Lord March 28, 2019 at age 90. Gerald is survived by his wife of 66 years, Florence, daughter Vicki (Tom) Wells, son Jim (Jill) Pinkston, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandsons, and brother Ronnie (Marge) Pinkston.

As a child, Gerald lived in Levelland, TX, spending much of his time on a 160 acre farm. He came to know Jesus as a teenager through a quarter time pastor who was also an undertaker.

In 1950, Gerald received a BA from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, TX and later, a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft Worth, TX.

Gerald married the love of his life Florence Goldston July 2, 1952.

After pastoring churches in TX and AZ, he and Florence served with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board from 1957 to their retirement in 1994. Gerald freely admitted that he didn’t know enough geography to know where Indonesia was, but that’s where he and Florence served for 32 years! During those years, Gerald taught at a seminary, directed a publishing house and served as a pastor to an international congregation. When they were unable to renew their visa, they served in South Africa for 5 years where he was a business manager and lecturer at the seminary as well as overseeing the maintenance for the campus.

Gerald will be remembered as a faithful and steady husband, father, grandfather, great -grandfather, pastor, and friend. He was a man of deep integrity and quiet service.

Gerald’s desire for people to know Jesus was the overarching motivation in how he lived his life. “The so-called sacrifices we think we have made will fade away when we reach our heavenly home and see some whose lives we touched. Together we will share in Christ’s glory.”
