Gerald "Jerry" L. Templin

Gerald “Jerry” Lee Templin, age 80 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully on Friday evening, September 1, 2023.

 

Jerry was born on February 5, 1943 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana a son of Ernest Dale and Madalynn (Stonebraker) Templin. 

 

Jerry graduated from Shelbyville, Indiana High School in 1961.  He would go on to complete a Bachelor of Art degree in political science from Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana.

 

He then pursued a masters degree at the University of New Mexico.  Jerry returned to Indiana and became a loyal employee of the United States Postal Service for 35 years. 

 

After retirement he worked the following six years at the Indiana State Senate Postal Service. 

 

Jerry met Lita Durham while she was practicing nursing in 1982 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana. 

 

They married May 14, 1983 and shared 40 years of love and devotion for one another. 

 

They enjoyed traveling to Florida and out west each summer to visit friends and spend time with their son and grandchildren.

 

Jerry was an avid reader and had a great knowledge of a great variety of topics.  He was known for his great sense of humor, uplifting wit and lightheartedness. 

 

He is survived by his wife Lita Templin of Indianapolis, his sister: Brenda Ann (husband Steve) Wakefield of Franklin, Indiana, his son: Alpha Ray Durham of Spokane, Washington, grandchildren: Noah Ray (wife Rebecca) Durham of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Kiana J. Durahm of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and great granddaughter: Roselynn Rayne Durham of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. 

 

Three nieces: Emily Wakefield of Springfield, Missouri, Valerie Lynn (husband Ryan) Wakefield of Dublin, Ireland, and Alyson Dale Wakefield of Brooklyn, New York.

 

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Washington Park East Cemetery.  Guests are asked to gather at 10:30 AM at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Center prior to processing to the graveside service.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
