Gerald "Gerry" Solomon

Gerald “Gerry” Solomon, 76, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2022.  He was born in Rushville, IN to Horace and Freda Solomon.  He graduated from Manilla High School and Indiana University.  Gerry played in his high school band and in the Marching Hundred Band.

Gerry was a loyal IU fan.  Until he became sick two years ago, he had only missed two home football games since he was a freshman at IU.  He was also a season ticket holder to the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers.  He supported the Indianapolis Symphony and a season ticket holder to the Broadway Series.  He loved to go to New York City every few years to attend the Broadway shows.  He enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states and many European countries plus Australia.

Gerry retired from teaching from the Indianapolis Public School after 40 years.  While teaching middle school, he enjoyed working with the athletic department.  He was a member of the Greater Retired Teachers of Indy and the Indiana Alumni Association.  He was also a member of Broadway United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; brother-in-law, Bill Julian; niece, Erin Morrow; great-nephews, Brooks, Will, and Miles; and many cousins.

Calling will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church, 609 E. 29^th Street, Indianapolis 46205, where funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 1:00 p.m.  A private graveside service will be held the following day in Hurst Cemetery, Rushville, IN.
