George R. White

George R. White, 92 of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015. He was a resident of Carmel for more than 30 years before moving to Robin Run, where he has been an active community resident the past 10 years. George was born January 1, 1923 in to the late George T. and Myrtle Reynolds White family in Chatham, VA. George was the first Eagle Scout from Chatham, VA. He was a 1942 graduate of Hargrave Military Academy. George served in the US Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946 participating in campaigns in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. George was wounded three times during his time in action. He received an EAME Campaign Ribbon with five Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge and a Good Conduct Medal for his honorable service. He was in the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Division whose troops were sent to liberate the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany. After the war, while recovering from his battle injuries, George attended Richmond College at the University of Richmond and later graduated from Oklahoma A&M School of Forestry. George worked in Public Relations for the Portland Cement Association for over 20 years before joining the Indiana Concrete Council. He later started his own agency; Communication Consultants. George was a writer and had three books published, including a trade textbook, a historical war perspective and a children's book. He was also a professional photographer and avid artist. Family and friends are invited to call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, Feb 20 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel. A service celebrating George's life will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, February 21 at Radiant Christian Life Church 16162 N. Carey Road, Westfield, IN 46074. A private burial with military honors will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery. George was the widower of Nancy Clark White. He is survived by his children. George C. (wife, Michelle) White, Clark V. (wife, Nancy) White, Valerie J. (husband, Richard) Vicknair, Sharon W. (husband, Jeff) Weaver and Duncan R. (wife, Jennifer) White; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Charles R. White; sister, Dorothea White (husband, Bill) Hylton. He was preceded in death by siblings, J. Terill White, Carlton White and Myrtle White Rucker.
