George Lee Coulon

February 25, 1932 — January 15, 2022

Indianapolis, Indiana

George Lee Coulon of Indianapolis passed away January 15, 2022 at the age of 89. George retired from the Christamore House in February 2003 where he had worked for 24 years serving the people of Haughville as a social work counselor. During that same period with his wife Dolly (Jankowski, whom he married June 29, 1979), he helped raise six stepchildren and one adopted grandson.

Prior to his marriage, he was a Holy Cross religious priest, ordained in Le Mans, France in May 1958. He continued theological studies in Rome and Paris where he received a doctorate in 1965. George also taught theology at Holy Cross, Washington D.C. and the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. He also worked in the pastoral ministry in two parishes in South Bend, Indiana prior to coming to Indianapolis. Since George’s retirement, he has been an active volunteer for St. Michael’s Parish religious programs, especially in St. Vince DePaul, helping those in need. George felt his greatest, and only major success in life, was his wonderful marriage with Dolly, whom he leaves behind.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Anna Coulon; brothers Gene, Dick, and Joe Coulon; his stepdaughter, Gail, and two nephews. He is survived by his wife, Dolly Coulon; brother, Tom Coulon (Betty); five stepchildren; one adopted grandson; five nieces; eight grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren. A Catholic mass dedicated to George will take place January 25, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 3354 W. 30th St., Indianapolis, IN 46222. A Celebration of Life will be held privately.
