George L. Douglass

November 27, 1934 — April 21, 2013

George Lynn Douglass was not a normal man. How do you describe a life this extraordinary? In short George stomped the earth with a passion, zest, love of business and love of family that was at times just plain hard to keep up with. He never stopped dreaming. But he dreamed with such powerful intentions and actions he created a lifetime of new realities that benefited so many of us. His core belief can be summed up as "The Body can Achieve what the Mind can Conceive and Believe". He knew there was greatness in every human life. There were so many lessons of life and love. We are grateful he was here. We were changed. George was born November 27th 1934 and passed away on April 21st 2013. He was 78 year old. In between these dates he married his high school girlfriend Jeanette Louise and bore 4 children, Matthew Reyman, Andrew Lewis, Peter Bentley and Mary Elisabeth Grace. All were by his side the day he passed. George graduated from Franklin College in 1956 and was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Andrew, Peter and grandson Max are also members of SAE. He was a veteran of the National Guard. Through the years George took his family on more adventures than we can actually remember. He loved to laugh and he loved to explore this country by planes, trains, automobiles and even horseback. He actually rode horseback across America during the summer of 1995. One of George's two lifelong passions was boating, and although George was not your typical joiner, in his last years he and Jeanie greatly enjoyed the Cape Coral Cruising club. His other lifelong passion were horses and he spent 15 years showing them across America with his children. George was a serial entrepreneur who through 60 years of business employed, motivated and cared for thousands of individuals. George was also a heart transplant survivor of 13 years and the family will be forever grateful to the doctors and donor that made this possible. It is the family's wish that all who are not morally opposed become donors as well. By far his greatest achievement was his passion and love for his sweetheart, Jeanette Louise Williams of Hastings Michigan. George was born in St Paul, MN and raised in the Butler area where he met Jeanie as she moved to Indianapolis, a new high school student. It was literally a love at first sight that never ended. They were often mistaken for newlyweds even after decades of marriage. Those who were close saw a compassion, commitment and spontaneity that fueled a love enduring until his last breath. It was a lesson in what love should be. He was preceded in death by his father George, mother Naomi, and an infant son. He also survived by nine grandchildren and his three sisters Mary Lou Evans, Jean Alread and Virginia Sumner. Services will be at Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church 1402 W Main St. Carmel, IN. The Calling is Thursday April 25th from 4pm to 8pm in church with the Funeral April 26th at 11:00am.
