George L. Day

George L. Day 68, of Indianapolis, passed away September 16, 2011. George was a firefighter for the Indianapolis Fire Department for 20 years retiring in 1988. George was also the owner/operator of G.L. Day Trucking, retiring in 2008. George was an active member of the Lynhurst Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. He was also a member of various clubs at the Shrine including the Hillbillies, Yacht Club and the Fireman's Club, where he served as president. Was a member in the Royal Order of Jesters, and also served as Vice President of the Wayne Township Fire Department Merit Board. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Helen Day, a brother Mike Day and a son George Day Jr. He is survived by his wife Lou-Ellen (Finchum) Day, daughters Christine Grady, her husband Mike, Glynda Day, sisters Rose Ellen Williams, Sharon Kay Williams, her husband Mike, brothers Dan Day, his wife Lou Ann, Jake Scott Day, his wife Becca, Fred Day Doss, his wife Blanche, grandson Mike Grady II, mother in law Elsie L. Rourke and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2-8pm on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center- Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Rd, Indianapolis. A Masonic Service will be held at 7pm Sunday at the funeral center. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2011 at the funeral center, with visitation from 10am until time of the service. Burial will follow the services in Floral Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Murat Shrine Transportation Fund.
