George Herbert Fulton of Indianapolis passed away February 9, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89.
He was born April 2, 1929 in Sheridan, IN to the late Virgil and Carrie Fulton – the 11th child in a family of 14. After graduating from Sheridan High School, he served his country in the US Army as a communications operator in Korea. Upon returning from Korea, he went to Central Business College. After working downtown for a year he started his career at Western Electric. During his time at Western Electric he spent many years attending night school at Indiana Central College before receiving his accounting degree. At a dance studio in July of 1954, he met Virginia and they were married that November. Eventually they welcomed four children, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. George and Virginia enjoyed a 64 year marriage. George retired from Western Electric in 1986 after 34 years as an accountant.
Upon retirement, George and Virginia spent a lot of time with their grandchildren and travelling. By 2015, they had travelled through all 50 states and had visited over 20 countries. They also did work with missionaries in Arizona.
A man of great faith who regularly read his Bible, he was an active member of Burge Terrace Baptist Church where he served as the head usher and was a member for 56 years, teaching Sunday School and being involved in Caleb’s Kin. He will be remembered for his kindness and love, which lives on in his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Virginia Fulton; children Brenda Lenar (Richard), Robert Fulton (Donella), Judi Snyder (Jim), and Ronald Fulton (Carmen); grandchildren Miranda Lenar, Caleb Fulton, Jasmin Snyder (Jason Adams), Jacob Snyder, Jamison Judah Snyder, Nathan Fulton, Katherine Fulton, and Peter Fulton; great-grandchildren Lillian Adams and Daphne Adams; siblings Lawrence “Bud” Fulton, Clarence Fulton, James Fulton, and Delores Summitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lincoln Fulton, John Fulton, Paul Fulton, Ruth Michael, Mary Overstreet, Martha Mullins, Florence Stern, Bertha Robinson, and Esther Schafer.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 13 from 11 AM to 2 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St, Indianapolis. Funeral Services will be at 2 PM with burial following at Memorial Park Cemetery.
