George Hackward

George Hackward, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on June 29, 2025, at age 89.

George was born on a farm near Higbee, Missouri, on March 19, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Anna Marie (Davis) Hackward, and two older brothers, Thomas Hackward, Jr., and John David Hackward.

George attended Higbee Public School and graduated in 1954. After graduating he attended Moberly Junior College in Moberly, Missouri, for three semesters. In 1956, he was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, Illinois, where he worked for five years. He was hired by the US Postal Service in 1966. He worked as a postal clerk in Peoria and East Peoria for thirty one years, until his retirement in 1992.

In 1956, George and Virginia Saulter were married. That marriage ended in 1969 after the birth of three sons: George Jr., Michael, and Rodney.

In 1970, George and Patsy Hamilton were married in Peoria. They had forty six years of happiness until she passed away in 2016. In addition to being his wife, she was his best friend and soul mate.

George is survived by his sons, George (Diane) Hackward, Jr., Michael (Elaine) Hackward, and Rodney (Wendy) Hackward; stepson, Edwin Morrow; daughters, Laurie Trevino and Julie (Richard) Mason; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

George was blessed in life by loving parents and family.
