George Edward Massey Jr.

George Edward Massey Jr., 83, passed away on September 7^th, 2022.

Ed was born on August 31^st, 1939 in Nashville, Tennessee to George Edward and Marie Lynn Massey.

He served his country in the United States Army as he enlisted in 1957 as an MP. He was stationed in South Korea and was a border guard. He went on to become a firefighter for IFD and retired in 1986.

Eddie married the love of his life, Norma “Nordy” Coomes on August 25th, 1997. They had a beautiful life together and got to celebrate their 25^th wedding anniversary.

Ed was known for his kind heart and sturdy stance. He loved large yet had a fighting spirit about him. Ed was also the biggest jokester and loved to tell jokes. He was a storyteller and his tall tales will be sorely missed.

He was a member of The Corvette Club, The Fireman’s Club, and was a proud member of Centre Masonic Lodge #23 and The Murat Shrine.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 25 years, Norma Coomes Kendall Massey; children, Deborah Massey Nevins and George Edward Schlemmer; step-daughter, Vicki Ubelhor (Bill); grandchildren, Brittney Best (Richie), Blake Nevins (Kaitlyn), Brooke Nevins, Brian Gasser, Regan Stewart (Rod), Eastan Kendall, and Kiran Kendall; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Schooley, Jakob Bradford, Nellie Best, one on the way, “Baby B”, Hudson Nevins, Isla Nevins, Taylor Stewart, Blake Stewart, and Kason Gasser; brother, Jerry Massey; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Massey; step-son, Mark Kendall; and brother, Jeffery Dale Lynn.

Ed’s funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 18^th, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46239 with entombment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital.
