George A. Collins, 84 of, Indianapolis,In., formerly of Carbondale, PA, died Friday, August 10, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on July 25, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, PA and was the son of the late Joseph Collins and Mabel Blake Collins of Wilkes-Barre, PA.
George was the former proprietor of George A. Collins Funeral Home. He was the widower of Elizabeth Johnson Collins of 44 years, who passed away in 1996. George belonged to various Catholic churches throughout his lifespan.
He enjoyed collecting and showing antique cars, took pleasure in playing cards, big band music, as well as classic comedy. George was known for his love of butterscotch krimpets, spearmint leaves, dots, ice cream and his dislike of vegetables. His children will always cherish his role of caregiver and loving father. His grandchildren and dogs would agree he made the best scrambled eggs. His green thumb was mostly contributed to miracle grow and he always had his Windex and paper towels ready for clear visibility to travel.
He was a friend to all and was known for his gregarious personality, infectious laugh and his classic salutation "Hi , How are you?" with his hand reaching out to all. George will greatly be missed by all.
George is survived by five children, son George A Collins Jr. and wife Becky of Osceola Indiana, daughter, Linda Anderson and husband Briant of Indianapolis, Indiana, son John Collins of Harrisburg, PA, son Albert Collins and wife Angie of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and daughter Mary Collins and husband Jeffery Keiter of Mount Gretna, PA; eight grandchildren, Ashley Stevenson, Bryan Collins, Neal Collins, Erin Collins Gietzen wife of Charlie Gietzen, Kaitlyn Anderson and Nicholas Anderson all of Indiana, and Stacey Heiner and Christopher Heiner of California; two great grandsons, Cole and Landon Gietzen of Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 6 PM in the Our Lady Chapel of Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, with calling from 1-6 PM.
