George William "Bill" Rinehart
86, of Carmel passed away on February 13, 2012. Born on April 17, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana on the family farm as were his grandfather and father. George was born to Benjamin Leland Rinehart and Mabel Mae (Smith) Rinehart. He was the only brother among four sisters, who called him "Billy".
George served in the U. S. Army as a Tech Sargeant during WWII with service in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was stationed at Scofield Barracks and worked as a driver for visiting officers and dignitaries. His professional career spanned 40 years with Standard Oil Of Indiana, American Oil and AMOCO, retiring in 1986.
He was married on October 19, 1946 to Vera Eileen (Coleman) Rinehart. He was devoted to his wife of 46 years when she died in May of 1992.
George is survived by Jeffrey William Rinehart (Karla), of Richmond, Virginia, and Julie Ann Rinehart Petersen (Mark) of Charlotte, North Carolina. As a proud grandfather he was "Grandpa George" to Kirsta Lyn Rinehart Britton (Dustin) and Jonathan Wesley Rinehart and "Pappy" to Hannah Eileen Petersen and MacLain Bradley Petersen. George was also a proud great grandfather to Adelaide Jane Britton and Benjamin Earle Britton. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Ruth Rinehart Brundyge, Erma Rinehart Ladd, Mary Rinehart Ostrander and Nancy Rinehart Pierce and many family members and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16th, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan - Carmel, Indiana from 6 to 8 pm. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 17th, 2012 at 1 pm at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana where he will join his beloved Eileen on the banks of the St Joseph River.
The family wishes to thank those who cared for our Patriarch in his last days, Visiting Angels, Carmel St. Vincent's Hospital and Manor Care Summer Trace.
