George A. Powers

George A. Powers 88 of Indianapolis died September 24, 2013. George was born on January 01, 1925 in Gaston, IN to John and Flossie (Meyers) Powers. George was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He married his sweetheart Margaret Faye Hill on April 09, 1948 in Yorktown, IN. George was a member of Cross Roads Church in Avon, IN. He had a passion for flying and he was a commercial pilot and a flight instructor. George retired as an Air Traffic Controller in 1984 after 26 years of service at Indianapolis International Airport here in Indianapolis. George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Alfred Powers and his daughter in law Carol Lynn (Schelling) Powers. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday September 28, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway 2950 North High School Road Speedway, IN at 3:30 pm with calling one hour prior to the service at the funeral center. George is survived by his wife Margaret Faye (Hill) Powers of 65 years of marriage, their children Michael Lee Powers, Reverend John Faye Powers and Kathy Jo (Danny) Shrout, his loving grandchildren Angela (Greg) Owen, Jonathan Shrout, Trevor Powers, Denise Bivens, Dannie Shrout and Jason Shrout and his beautiful great grandchildren Madi and Holden and Sophie Belle Owen, Desi Shrout and Kaiden Shrout . Memorial contributions may be given to The Gathering Together in memory of George for all the kind and caring love and support that have been extended during this difficult time.
