Georg Bloch

February 17, 1949 — March 4, 2026

Carmel, Indiana

Georg Bloch, 77, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on March 4, 2026. He was born on February 17, 1949 to parents, Jacob Bloch and Theresa (Mueller) Bloch. Georg married the love of his life, Linda (Laatsch) Bloch, on April 28, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage before his passing.

Georg was born in a displaced persons camp in Vienna, Austria after his family escaped their home country of Yugoslavia, post WWII. Georg and his parents were sponsored for immigration to the US by the Lutheran Settlement Agency in 1952, at which time they were placed with Our Savior Lutheran in Cloquet, MN. They relocated to Chicago in 1954, where they were reunited and shared a two-flat with extended family.

Georg graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1967. He attended Suomi College in Hancock, MI where he played leading roles in productions of A Christmas Carol and Arsenic and Old Lace and was a DJ on the college’s radio station. He earned his BS at Northern Michigan University in 1974.

His career began with Shure Brothers, which involved traveling Europe extensively while supplying sound equipment for various artists, most notably ABBA. Georg always had a love of flying, well before his corporate stint. Staying true to his adventurous nature, he decided to make a career change in 1979 and became a flight instructor, where his all-in approach led him to building his own flight simulators on the side. His aviation career presented vast opportunities and experiences, from transporting organ donations out of O’Hare to many notable events and destinations as a private charter pilot and most importantly, a cherished mentor to up and coming pilots. His final contribution to aviation came in the form of FAA employment, before growing health challenges led to his retirement in 2016.

In 1990, Georg, Linda and daughter, Gretchen, relocated to Carmel, IN. Georg took a hiatus to be a full-time Dad to Gretchen through her youth then returned to flying once she was fledged.

Georg had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, was an avid reader, a creator and doer. He dove right into countless projects, including building the most impressive sledding ramps in the front yard during Chicago winters, a nature trail in the woods behind the house in Carmel complete with sitting areas and displays of native forest plants, elaborate landscaping and pond creations, remodeling the entire house DIY from studs, laying an entire brick driveway…twice, all alongside his constant tinkering with electronics and robotics. His sense of wonder and engagement in the world was gifted to his daughter through his excitement of sharing random ‘science tricks’ as well as teaching the art of creating respectable paper airplanes that would squash the best competition.

Georg was anything but ordinary. He drew interest from friends from friends and recognition from colleagues through his quiet strength, logical approach to challenges, extraordinary intelligence and wicked sense of humor. He was fluent in multiple languages, and loved entertaining with jokes in German, as a gifted raconteur.

Georg is survived by his loving wife, Linda Bloch; daughter, Gretchen (Scott) Adams of Westfield; granddaughters, Norah, and Noelle, uncle Joseph (Marilyn) Kampf of Hauser, ID, Kathy (Jerry) Tufano of Chicago, IL, and Laurie (Doug) Witt of Arlington Heights, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anna Kampf.
