Gaylord “Champ” Good, a longtime resident of Lawrence, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 90.
Gaylord was born on August 23, 1934 to Virgil and Ada (née Roach) Good in Indianapolis. He attended Broad Ripple High School until age 16, when he began his decade-long professional boxing career. Upon his boxing retirement, he returned home to embark on a 40+ year career as a Journeyman Pressman, first working for Howard W. Sams, then working with various companies as an independent contractor.
Gaylord was lovingly devoted to his wife of 54 years, Betty (née Bolander), and together they raised 5 children. He began weightlifting at a young age and held many state, national, and world titles. Champ lived many lives, including spending time as a semi-pro baseball catcher, a horse trainer, and a fitness club employee. Among his hobbies were frequenting many area restaurants, watching football and westerns, being a gifted storyteller, and spending time with his family.
Gaylord was a devout Christian who ministered across the state and shared the teachings of Jesus with everyone he met. He was a member of 12 Stones Fellowship and found peace in his final days knowing he was entering the Kingdom of Heaven upon his death.
