Gayle O. Kamp, 95, died March 21, 2012. He was born on June 22, 1016, the son of Omer M. Kamp and Adeline (Metzger) Kamp in Normal, IL. He graduated from Linlawn High School in Wabash and attended Butler University.
He retired in 1981, after more than 20 years with Spector Freight System as Director of Sales and Director of Electronic Data Interchange. He was instrumental in developing tracing computer programs for Spector, that eventually were used by many other carriers.
Gayle was a founding member of the American Society of Traffic and Logistics and served the Indiana Chapter in several capacities including president. He was a Past President of the Indianapolis Motor Transportation Club and a Chairman of the Customer Relations Council of the Indiana Truck Association. He was the recipient of Spector's Distinguished Salesman Award of the National Marketing Executive Club of Chicago.
He married Thelma Cass of Huntington, IN on November 22, 1939, she survives. They were married 72 years. Other survivors include daughter, Cassandra L. Bradley (Jerry) and son, Gregory G. Kamp (Pat); grandchildren, Matthew Bradley (Danica), Marla Mast (Brian), Ryan Kamp (Anna), Michael Kamp (Darci) and seven great-grandchildren.
He was a member and Past Trustee of Irvington Presbyterian Church, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Indianapolis Hosta Society, The American Hosta Society, Sons of the American Revolution, Descendants of Colonial Clergyman and several genealogical societies.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Shrine Children's Hospitals in care of Murat Shrine, 510 N. New Jersey St., Indianapolis, IN, 46204 or the Deacon's Fund in care of Irvington Presbyterian Church, 55 Johnson Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46219.
Calling will be from Noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 26 in Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park East , with services immediately following. Entombment will be in Mount Vernon Mausoleum, Washington Park East.
