Gary Ray Gammons

Gary R. Gammons, 57, of Camby, Indiana passed away on May 9, 2018. He was born March 19, 1961 in Indianapolis, Indiana to John Gammons and Janet Schneck. A lifetime Indiana resident, he graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1979. Gary met the love of his life, Theresa, during high school. The two didn’t begin dating until 1999 after a chance meeting, which turned into 19 years of unconditional love. He was a skilled carpenter by trade, devoting time to the construction industry. Family remembers Gary as a dare devil with a heart of gold. He was the kind of man who would do anything for anyone, never asking for anything in return. He was a wonderful father and an amazing uncle, often behaving as though he was one of the kids himself. He was an active, strong man who enjoyed cliff diving, riding his Harley, hiking trails, and traveling the world. Gary tragically suffered a brain aneurysm in 2003; he was left with a 5% chance of surviving. His fighter’s spirit shined through and he spent the last 15 years of his life being not only a fighter, but a survivor. With all his health woes, he still just wanted to make people smile. He did not want pity or to be treated any differently, he was still the same ol’ Gary on the inside and he made sure to let everyone know. He was a one of a kind man, one most could take a lesson on life from. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

He is survived by his father, John Gammons; mother, Janet Schneck; step-father, Paul Schneck; the love of his life of 19 years, Theresa Roberts; sons, Jacob and Josh; siblings, Rick Gammons, Steven Gammons, Michael (Marla) Gammons, Cynthia (Jim) Fahrbach; many loving nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, May 15 from 4-8 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis. Services will take place Wednesday at 10 AM at the funeral home. Gary will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery immediately following services.
