Gary L. McDermid

Gary L. McDermid, 74, of Carmel, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022.  Gary was born in Indianapolis to the late Arthur E. and Betty Jane McDermid.  He was a 1970 graduate of Ball State and received his Masters in Education in 1973.  He met the love of his life there; they dated for 4 years, later married for 52 years. Gary never met a stranger and was widely known for his distinctive laugh and his million stories.   He taught at Lawrence Elementary for 5 years, later co-owning and eventually owning Commercial Furnishings Corp.  After retirement in 2009, he handled remote sales for Workspace Solutions of Ft. Wayne and most recently was a driver for Hamilton County Express, a job he really enjoyed for the chance to help people. Gary was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Carmel.  He was a proud member of the Trailblazer Society of Camp Tecumseh and was an eagle scout in his youth.  Gary loved to travel and share adventures with special friends, traveling to Europe and the USA.  He especially loved Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, and South Haven Michigan, where he weekended in his 5^th wheel.  He enjoyed weekly golf with friends and attended  the Two By Two Couples Bible Study with Jonene for over 20 years. Family and friends are invited to gather Friday, July 29 from 9:00 to 11:00 at at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Carmel, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 Gary was the beloved husband of Jonene, wife of 52 years; father to Heather (husband Jeff) Armstrong, Scott (wife Nicole)McDermid, and Jonathan (wife Lauren) McDermid; Papa Gary to his much-loved grandchildren, Caleb, Levi, Isaac, Hunter, and Morgan.
