Gary Joseph Taylor

Gary Joseph Taylor (71) departed this world suddenly, but peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at his home in Indianapolis, IN. Gary was born in Indianapolis, IN to Jack Taylor and Dorothy Taylor. He was a graduate of Pike High School (’69) and Purdue University (’73). He married Susan (Cooper) Taylor in 1971. Together they raised three children: Brian Taylor, Mike Taylor, and Melissa (Taylor) Allicock. He had many different careers in his life, but the highlight was when he was able to open Big G’s Gourmet BBQ in Avon, IN. His award-winning pulled pork, ribs, brisket, rub, and sauce were craved by everyone who tasted it!

Gary was an avid athlete in his youth! He was a star baseball, wrestling, football, and track and field athlete in high school. He continued to play in recreational leagues in college and beyond. He thrilled in being able to watch and cheer on his children as they started playing football, baseball, softball, soccer, wrestling, basketball, and volleyball. You could always find him on the weekends cheering on Purdue and the Indianapolis Colts.

Gary enjoyed many different outdoor activities. He loved to boat, fish, camp, golf, and grill. He never met a stranger and welcomed everyone into his home with open arms!

Gary was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Susan (Cooper) Taylor, and his brother Scott (Marti) Taylor. Gary is also survived by his children Brian Taylor, Mike (Judy) Taylor, and daughter Melissa (Dion) Allicock. He is survived by his grandchildren Rose Allicock, Andrea (Allicock) West and her wife Bri West, Dion Allicock Jr. and his wife Laila (Burch) Allicock, Drew Taylor, Madison Taylor, Amber Taylor, Karma Taylor, Nicholas Howell, TJ Taylor, and Abigail Allicock. He is also survived by his great-grandson Phoenix West.
