Gary J. O'Mara

GARY JOE (COLONEL) O'MARA Gary went home to Heaven on July 21, 2013. Gary was born on August 25, 1935, in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from George Washington High School and IUPUI. He was employed at Western Electric as an Associate Engineer and at AT&T Technologies as an Account Executive, retiring in 1989. He also worked part-time for Raychem Technologies as a Communication Consultant and, most recently, as a Hearing Reporter for the Social Security Office of Hearings and Appeals. Gary was an Air Force veteran. He was a commercial pilot and flight instructor and was active in the Indy Air Show, serving many years as "Air Boss." He was a team member of the Marion County Veterans Burial Team. He was a Colonel and Senior Pilot with the Commemorative Air Force and also flew with the Warbirds of America. He belonged to American Legion Post 777 and was a member of Brookville Road Community Church. He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Lucy) O'Mara, son, Scott O'Mara (Pam), and daughter, Diana Brown (David); five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 24th, from 4:00-8:00 PM at Flanner and Buchanan, Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. Indianapolis, IN 46229. The funeral service will be at the same location on Thursday, July 25th, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Gary's memory to the Marion County Veterans Burial Team, 523 Leisure Lane, Greenwood, IN 46142.
