Frederick Adrian Bazley

Frederick Adrian Bazley, 92, of Indianapolis, Indiana died peacefully at home on Friday, February 25, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Irene Bazley, his devoted wife of 38 years.

Born in Watertown, MA, Fred attended schools in Watertown and Waltham graduating from Waltham High School in 1947. He began working for Employers Mutual Insurance Company in 1948 advancing to Claims Clerical Supervisor. He was in the Naval Reserve from 1948 until he joined the Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean War. After completing Boot Camp, he was assigned for duty on a radar picket destroyer (USS Everett F. Larson DDR-830) operating with the Sixth Fleet until 1953. He was transferred to CINCNELM Headquarters in London, England and was honorably discharged in 1955 as a 1st class Petty Officer.

Fred returned to his job with Employers Mutual Insurance Company in Boston, MA and enrolled at Boston University. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University and a Bachelor of Law degree from Suffolk University Law School, he was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts in November 1962. He left Employers Mutual and accepted a job with American States Insurance Company in Indianapolis starting with them in December 1962 as a Claims Supervisor and retired as a full Vice-President of the company in 1994.

Fred’s first marriage ended amicably, after which Fred met Elizabeth in Cleveland in 1982. They were married a year later in 1983 and have enjoyed a wonderful life together since then. Fred was active in his church and in community service, volunteering at Community Hospital North for 10 years.

Fred was preceded in death by his brother-in law, William B. Neece, and sisters-in-law, Noel R. Neece, and Joyce Ralph.

Fred is survived by his wife Elizabeth; 3 children from his prior marriage, Bari (Brian) Owen of Martinsville, Indiana; Jena (Merrill) Morey of New Castle, Indiana; Tina (Kevin) Bazley-Martin of Wausau, Wisconsin; and 8 grandchildren, Russell (Julie) Morey, Colton Owen, Dani (Nick) Gibbs, Cally (Joe) Schoolcraft, Lexi (Jacob LeSage) Morey, Luke Morey, Miles Morey, and Nina Morey, brothers-in-law, Robert Ralph and Robert Neece, Faurice D. (Judy) Neece, and Pastor James (Nancy) Neece, and sisters-law, Lois Neece, Tena Cole, and Anita (Wayne) Neff.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 406 W. 34th Street Kansas City, Missouri 64111.

Funeral services will be private.
