Frederic Allen Alfrey

Frederic Allen Alfrey, age 87 of Greenwood, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Fred was born on March 3, 1939 in Indianapolis, IN, a son of Cecil and Lois (Irvine) Alfrey. He raised by his father Cecil and stepmother: Lavaria Brunner Alfrey. He had a younger brother: James Alfrey who precedes him death.

Fred met Peggy Jean Wilson in 1959. They married on May 22, 1960.  He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years: Peggy Jean Wilson of Greenwood, Indiana.

His four children: Robert (wife Christine) Alfrey of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Teresa Moore of Westfield, Indiana, Laura (husband Vince) Chittum of Bargersville, Indiana and Pete (wife Sue) Alfrey of Noblesville, Indiana.

Fred is survived by 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Fred grew up in Indianapolis in the Eastside.  He attended Shortridge High School.

After high school he enlisted in the US Navy, serving for two years.

He soon met and married his wife Peggy Jean (Wilson) Alfrey in downtown Indianapolis at L.S. Ayers. 

Throughout his working career he worked as a truck driver for Yellow Freight for over 40 years.

In his free time he enjoyed making furniture. He was very musical and could play many instruments including the piano, organ, saxophone, clarinet, guitar and harmonica.  Fred was truly very musically talented. 

He enjoyed being outdoors and fishing. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Floral Park Funeral Center, located at 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222.

The funeral service to celebrate Fred's life will follow at 2:00 PM.

Entombment will follow at Floral Park Cemetery.
