Fred Edward Hampton, 100, of Zionsville, IN, passed away on June 14, 2025. He was born June 2, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Fred was a loving husband of 65 years to Mary Lou who preceded him in death August, 2015. He was blessed with and survived by daughters Debbie Jack, Diane Kellogg (Howard), son Mike Hampton (Jill), grandchildren Nancy Collier (Justin), Sharon Gall (Andy), David Jack (Stephanie), Laura Bennett (Adam), Therese Henry (John), Marlene Kregers (Jake), Caroline Hampton, and great-grandchildren Alex, Elise and Chloe Gall, Cooper and Tucker Jack, Hadley and Gavin Bennett, Eloise and Elliott Henry, and Mackenzie and Sol Kregers.
Fred served in the Army Air Corps as a tailgunner on a B-17 in WWII. He graduated from Fenn College in Cleveland as a mechanical engineer and retired from Detroit Diesel Allison as a senior project manager in 1985.
Fred loved to travel in the US and all over Europe. He was active in Elderhostels soon after retirement. He also loved golf. He was instrumental in founding the Men’s Senior League at the Zionsville Golf Course.
Fred was active in the Lions Club and served as past president. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th degree knight for 25 years.
Visitation for Fred will be from 4-7 on Friday, June 20, at Flanner Buchanan-Zionsville, 105 W Pine St, Zionsville, IN 46077, with a Lions Club Carnation Service at 6:45 pm and a Rosary Prayer service at 7 pm. Additional calling will be held on Saturday June 21, 2025 at St Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 1870 Oak St, Zionsville from 11 am to Noon with Mass beginning at Noon followed by burial at Zionsville Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the Zionsville Lions Club
