Fred A. Foster of Greenwood, Indiana died peacefully on May 8, 2026 at the age of 77.
Fred was born March 7, 1949 in Indianapolis to the late John R. Foster and Gertrude King.
He lived a life defined by curiosity and an unending desire to learn. Over the years, he wore many hats—and wore each one with dedication and authenticity. His professional journey included roles as a hairstylist, TSA officer, correctional facility guard, and bus driver. Each position allowed him to connect with people in different ways, and he approached every role with responsibility and pride.
Never one to stop exploring new skills, he followed his passion by attending French Pastry Chef School in 2012. At home, he was known as a YouTube handyman. If there was a problem to solve, he wanted to understand it—fully and thoughtfully.
He especially loved questioning the world around him, engaging in meaningful conversations, and expanding his knowledge. Learning wasn’t just something he did; it was who he was. Whether exploring a new idea or revisiting an old one, he found joy in understanding how things worked and why they mattered.
In quieter moments, he enjoyed spending time with his three furry companions, watching classic movies, and listening to the music of the 1960s and 1970s.
He will be remembered as a man who never stopped learning, never stopped asking questions, and never stopped finding meaning in both work and wonder. His curiosity, resilience, and individuality will continue to live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Marcia A. Foster; daughter Dana Foster; Sister Sharon O’Donnell (Paul); brother Gary Foster; 2 nephews; 5 nieces; 1 great-niece; and 3 fur babies Cassie, Tybbie, and Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his son Cory Foster; his parents, and his brothers John Foster Jr. and Bruce Foster.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, May 22 from 10-11 AM with a Memorial Service beginning at 11 AM in Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Indy Humane Society at https://indyhumane.org.
