Frank W McMurry, 84 of Carmel, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021. Frank was born July 17, 1937 in Crawfordsville, IN to the late Noel O. and Ruby (Sharp) McMurry and baptized as an infant in the Trinity Methodist Church in Crawfordsville, IN. He was a 1955 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and a 1962 graduate of Wabash College. He wedded MaryAnn Layne in October 1956.
Mr. McMurry was in various technical computer positions for his entire professional life. Those positions ranged from entry level computer operator in 1956, to marketing support representative in the 1960s, to network security technician in the 1980s, and vice-president of computer operations in the 1990s. He retired from the information network security staff of Indianapolis Power and Light in 2002, and immediately joined the staff of Carmel Lutheran Church (CLC) as Director of Discipleship. Upon his retirement in 2014, he dedicated his remaining years to his beloved wife of 60 years and his family.
Prior to his membership in CLC, Mr. McMurry was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brownsburg, IN., where he served in several capacities including president of the congregation for one term in the 1980s.
Mr. McMurry was a member of the Sigma Chi social fraternity. He was also active in conservative political organizations and served as county chairman of the Porter County Young Republican Organization in the mid-1960s.
Mr. McMurry was preceded in death by his sister, Eunice Enkoff of Shelbyville, IL; his daughter, Kimla Jo Smith; and his wife. He is survived by a son, J-Allen (Juliette) McMurry of Noblesville, IN; son-in-law, Paul J. Smith of Anderson, IN and Robert B. Baumgardner of Noblesville, IN. Grandchildren include: Khristen (Ken) Voogt, Erin (Gordon) Van Kirk, Joshua McMurry, Jacob McMurry, and Kaitlyn McMurry. Great grandchildren include: Elijah Hume, Audrey (Austin) Ross, Griffin Carter, and Elle Van Kirk.
A celebration of his life will be held at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 4850 E. Main St., Carmel, IN on January 7, 2022 at 11:00 am. A viewing will take place prior to the service beginning at 9:00 am. Inurnment will take place at the Cornerstone Lutheran Columbarium immediately following the service, with a light lunch afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Cornerstone Lutheran Church or Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN.
