Frank Edward Farlow
89, of Indianapolis, left this earth on January 1, 2015 after succumbing to vascular dementia and acute influenza. He was born in 1925 to Frank and Lois Farlow of Paoli Indiana, graduating from Paoli High School (1944). He served his country in World War II, joining the 13th Army Airborne Division in the glider troop core. Following the war, he graduated from Indiana University, where he met Evelyn Dillard, whom he married in 1950. His career as a technical writer included stints in South Bend, IN (Talos missles) and Indianapolis where he worked for PR Mallory Corporation and Carrier (Bryant, Day & Night, Payne). He eventually became manager of the technical writing department for United Technologies. He founded the Technical Writers' Society in Indiana. He and Evelyn followed the accomplishments of their only son, Martin Farlow, MD (wife Diane), who is a Professor of Neurology at Indiana University School of Medicine, working on Alzheimer's research. He is also survived by two grandchildren; Erin Farlow, MD, a vascular surgeon at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and Nathan Farlow, MD (wife Janice), a physical medicine and rehabilitation resident at IU Medical School; and one grandchild, Layla Farlow, whom he enjoyed for the last 2 years of his life. Major hobbies and/or joys of his life included building and crashing radio-controlled model airplanes, extensive foreign travel with Evelyn, and attending sport and school functions of his grandchildren.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center (325 E Carmel Drive) with visitation prior to the service from 9 – 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana University School of Medicine.
