Frances Drew

Frances (Fran) Tuttle Drew, 85, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on August 31, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Fran was born in Van Wert, OH to Robert and Marian Tuttle and attended Van Wert High School where she was involved in many activities including National Honor Society. Upon graduation, she attended and graduated from DePauw University where she majored in Child Psychology. While at DePauw, Fran was President of Alpha Phi sorority and was also involved in Kappa Alpha Delta and Gamma Beta Tau. After graduation, she moved to Ft. Wayne, IN, where she met, fell in love with, and married, William (Bill) Drew in 1954. At the time, Bill worked for Lincoln National Life Insurance as an actuary. While in Ft. Wayne, Fran was involved in many different activities including President of the Ft. Wayne Art League, Vice President of the Alpha Phi Alum Group and Secretary and Publicity Chairman of the DePauw Alum Association. She was also Vice President of the local chapter of DAR. Fran and Bill moved to Indianapolis in 1968 when Bill accepted a position as Head Actuary of Indianapolis Life Insurance Co. During her time in Indianapolis, Fran was involved in various community and school affairs, including being a charter member and vice president of the fundraising organization Home for Friendless Animals. She was also Den Mother for Cub Scouts for three years and also worked for the Republican Party of Indianapolis as a poll worker for nearly 40 years. Fran will always be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and her generosity, and she will be missed by all family and friends. Preceding Fran in death was her husband, Bill Drew, who died in 1994. Survivors include sons Bob (Holly) Drew, Bill (Theresa) Drew, and Jim Drew. She is also survived by five grandchildren – Jack, Jeb, Will, Austin, and Riley, as well as a great granddaughter, Brynleigh. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 1 p.m., with calling from 11 a.m. at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a favorite charity or to the Leelanau Conservancy, Leland, MI.
