Florence Miller

October 4, 1929 — July 17, 2013

Florence Jameson Miller, age 83, of Indianapolis, was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, July 17. Flo was a native of Indianapolis and attended Tudor Hall School. Following her graduation from Smith College, she returned to Indianapolis and worked for The Indianapolis Star, where she covered the details of her friends' weddings. At Smith, Flo started dating the love of her life, Eugene C. Miller Jr. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last month. Flo most enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved summers in Leland, Michigan, where she was Leland Yacht Club's best crew for her brother growing up. More recently, summer gatherings in Leland involved every child and grand child. Flo was an active volunteer. She served in many capacities at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, including co-leading a women's Bible study group for over 25 years. She was a Master Gardener and served as President of Indianapolis Garden Club. She was active in the Jr. League, Colonial Dames, The Progressive Club, and The Dramatic Club, and was a member of Woodstock Club and the Leland County Club. Together, Flo and Gene traveled the far reaches of the globe. From the Great Wall, to Mongolia; Siberia to Antarctica; Moscow to Vladivostok, New Zealand to the Great Barrier Reef; India to Jordan; The British Isles to Borneo; Africa to Chile. If there was a site to see or an experience to enjoy, they saw it and enjoyed it! Flo was preceded in death by her sister, Susanah Mayberry, but is survived by her brother, John Tarkington Jameson, Jr., her husband, Eugene C. Miller, III, their four children and nine grand children: Eugene C. Miller, Jr. (wife Peggy and Annie); Mary Booth Stanley (husband John and Ian, Caitlin and Alec); J. Peter Miller (wife Lisa and Katherine and Christy); and Sarah Jameson Carter (husband John and Molly, Ben and Maggie). A memorial service will take place at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 4:30 PM with a reception celebration to follow at the Stanley's home. Memorial Contributions in honor of Flo may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple.
