Florence Matthiesen

Florence E. Matthiesen, 84, of Indianapolis, formerely of Waukegan, IL died January 21, 2012 at IU Health North in Carmel, IN. Florence was born April 29, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Samuel and Georgia Plice; they preceded her in death. Mrs. Matthiesen was a graduate of Northwestern University was retired from Waukegan, IL schools where she taught kindergarten for 30 years. Florence was a member of the I.E.A, the W.C.S. and N.E.A. An avid golfer through life, she served as President for four years of the 9 hole Ladies Golf organization at Bent Tree Golf Club in Jasper, GA where she was also club champion in 2007. Mrs. Matthiesen is survived by her husband, James A. Matthiesen; her son, Jay A. Matthiesen; her daughter, Carol A. Waddell; her grandchildren, Jenell Fairman, Jodi Wickenkamp, Jeannie Glasstetter; her six great grandchildren; her brothers, Bill Plice and Sam Plice. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring of 2012 after which her cremated remains will be scattered in Mayhew Lake in Grand Marias, Minnesota in the summer of 2012.
