Florence Ann Burnham

Florence Ann Burnham, 96, of Westfield, Indiana, has gone to be with the Lord on Friday, September 15, 2023. She was born on April 18, 1927, in South Bend, Indiana, to parents, John J. DeGrove and Hazel (Gorsline) DeGrove.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Burnham; son, John M. Burnham; parents, John and Hazel DeGrove; grandson, Lawrence Burnham; and sister, Lucille Rhodes. 

Florence is survived by her son, Michael (Kris) Burnham; daughter in-law, Anna Burnham and granddaughters, Danila and Rachel Burnham, Jessica Waldrop and many nieces and nephews.

In 1948, Florence married her high school sweetheart, Walter Burnham. They were together 70 years until Walter passed away on December 9, 2017.  They shared many adventures together traveling around the world, occasionally going on cruises and moving to Florida for a few years. They shared many special moments together in starting their family and then watching their family grow.

Florence worked for Standard Locknut and Lock Washer as a secretary for many years making many long-lasting friendships.  She enjoyed playing golf first at Pebble Brook Golf Club and then at Highland Woods Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida.  In her 70’s she went back to school at Butler University to learn Spanish and used it to be an interpreter for the Pan Am Games.  She also sold Mary Kay Cosmetics well into her 80’s.

Florence was a devout member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Noblesville, Indiana. One of her favorite activities was working at the annual Strawberry Festival in June.

Visitation for Florence will be from 12pm-1pm on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Connor Suite) – 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250, with a funeral service immediately following at 1pm. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  A reception will follow in the Connor Suite directly after the graveside service. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to the charity or charities of your choice.
