Florence Borman

March 19, 1931 — September 22, 2025

Indianapolis, IN

Florence Jochim Borman, 94, of Carmel, IN, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025. Florence was born on March 19, 1931, to the late Paul and Blanche (Bosler) Jochim. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Born in Mariah Hill, IN, Florence grew up on the family farm, moving to town (Huntingburg, IN) the summer before her senior year of high school. She graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1949.

During high school, Florence worked at Santa Claus Land (later named Holiday World), helping Santa respond to children’s letters. After high school, she worked for GE in Huntingburg, for the Sparta Illinois Printing Company and then RCA Records in Indianapolis. After her oldest daughter was born, she became a full-time mom. Later in life, Florence took accounting courses and spent ten years working in accounting for Ayr-Ways Stores Distribution Center and then Mayflower Transit Company.

Florence married the love of her life, Bennie Borman, on December 26, 1953. Florence and Ben had their first date during his leave from the Navy in May of 1952; on his next leave, a year later, they were engaged; and on his next leave, seven months later, they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, IN. They enjoyed many fun times together, spending time with family and friends, traveling in the United States and abroad and watching sporting events, especially Purdue football. They were married for 70 years.

Together, Florence and Ben raised four daughters. Florence was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for her daughters and matching outfits for their Barbie dolls; loved baking, especially cookies, coffee cakes, and yeast rolls; planted and tended her flower garden, mostly of geraniums, petunias and gladioli; and planned the annual family vacations to new and fun places each summer. Florence, Ben, and their daughters spent several weekends each year in southern Indiana, as family was important to her, celebrating each Easter at her mother’s home with all six of her older brothers and sisters, and their families; in July, making home-made ice-cream with Ben’s brothers and sisters and their families; celebrating Christmas with plentiful meals and gift exchanges and many a weekend spent talking, eating, and playing cards. Florence loved playing cards with Ben, her daughters, sons-in-laws, and grandchildren; baking cookies and homemade rolls for her grandchildren; going to her grandchildren’s sporting events; taking care of her grandchildren when needed; and sharing holiday and birthday meals together.

Florence was a practicing Catholic throughout her life and her faith was an important part of her life. She was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church since 1966.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Doug) Bartlett, Patricia (Bloor) Redding Jr., Teresa Borman, Barbara (Kevin) Murphy; grandchildren Heather (Travis) Schulze, Jennifer (D.R.) Grieves, Whitney (Chris) Buckel, Bloor (Elizabeth) Redding III, John Murphy and Emily Murphy; 6 great grandchildren; and sister, Charlotte Gasser. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Bennie Lee Borman; her brothers, Otto (Rudy) Jochim and Elmer Jochim; her sisters, Getrude (Alice) Ackerman, Aurelia (Rea) Blair, and Edna (Gene) Stagnitto.

A private funeral service for Florence Borman will be held on Monday September 29, 2025 at the Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
