Flora Rose Joseph George left this earth in the arms of her Heavenly Father on April 6, 2011. Her fulfilled and well-lived life was spent as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Flora was born in Brazil, Indiana to Jeannette and Abraham Joseph on November 14, 1920. She graduated from Brazil High School and worked in her parents’ grocery store. She married Alfred J. George on February 15, 1942. They relocated to Indianapolis where they owned Al’s Department Store, and later owned Southway Norge Village. Al preceded her in death on April 2, 1991.
Flo was an exceptional cook and spent many hours preparing traditional Lebanese food for holidays and for sharing. Every family member learned how to knead the dough for Syrian bread and how much lemon to put on a Syrian salad. She shared her talents by volunteering at St. Elizabeth Seton Church preparing bereavement meals for parishioners.
Nanny is survived by her children CDR. Daniel (Priscilla) George, USN ret., Janet Barton, Theresa (Ivan) Miller; grandchildren, Rodney (Angela) Miller, Erin George, Randall (Amy) Miller, Dennis (Keri) Barton, and LCDR. Chad (Dallas) George; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Alexis, Natalie, Susan and Jacquolyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.
A celebration of Flora’s life will take place on Monday April 11, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 1pm, followed by a funeral Mass at 3pm.
