Finis Johnson Jent

Finis Jent, of Speedway, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2021 at the age of 88. Finis was born on June 20, 1932 in Woodburn, Kentucky to Harlin and Alice Jent. His family settled in West Indianapolis where he attended School 44 and George Washington High School, class of 1951. While at Washington High he served as President of the Student Council, attended Boys State and served as a Delegate to Washington DC representing GWHS. Finis also ran track. Finis graduated from Indiana State University in 1955 with a degree in Education. Upon graduating, he took a job at Speedway High School teaching Social Studies and Industrial Arts. Finis taught in Speedway from 1955-1991. He also coached track. Mr. Jent, the Shop teacher, will forever be remembered for the stories he would tell during class.

Finis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Jent. Also surviving are his children Stephen (Kristi) of Madison, Mississippi, Julie (Dan) Luker of Zionsville, Indiana and Brian (Renee) of Carmel, Indiana. Finis also enjoyed spending time with his 10 amazing grandchildren.

Finis is preceded in death by his parents Harlin and Alice Jent and brothers Norman and Denis.

Finis was a man of strong faith. During his lifetime, he was active at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Speedway Baptist Church, and most recently, College Park Baptist Church, where he loved greeting people.

Calling will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway, on May 11th from 4pm to 8pm with funeral services on May 12th at 10:00 am. A private burial will take place in Greensburg, Indiana.
