Fereydoun Hamidi, born on October 11, 1940, in Tehran, Iran, passed away on May 27, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He lived a life characterized by dedication, kindness, and an enduring spirit of adventure. Fereydoun enjoyed a remarkable career, spending the last 30 years of his professional life serving as Chief Engineer for the California Department of Transportation. His educational journey was equally impressive, culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering.

Fereydoun was known for his warm and welcoming personality, deeply appreciated by family members and colleagues alike. His great sense of humor and willingness to help others made him a beloved figure in many circles. An adventurer at heart, he traveled to the United States alone at the age of 18, paving the way for a new life filled with accomplishments.

He is remembered fondly for his passions outside of work—his love for travel, dining out, and hosting gatherings that featured his culinary skills and Persian dishes. Fereydoun took great delight in sharing meals with friends and even dedicated time to teaching his sister how to cook, demonstrating his nurturing spirit. He had a zest for life that included dancing, long walks, reading, and enjoying movies.

Fereydoun leaves behind his beloved sister Asieh; his brother-in-law Richard Dicken; and his sister Parvin Hamidi. He is predeceased by his father, Mohammad Hamidi; his mother, Iran Saremi; and his sisters, Akram Salam and Zinat Salam.

His proudest accomplishments included not only his educational and professional success but also the deep respect he earned from those who reported to him and his management team. Fereydoun was a mentor to many young engineers, guiding them with generosity and insight.

A graveside service to honor Fereydoun's life will be held on Tuesday June 3, 2025 at 3:30pm, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Fereydoun are invited to pay their respects. He will be remembered for his kindness, his adventurous spirit, and the profound impact he had on those around him.
