Ferdinand Ross Vogelgesang,103, of Boca Raton, FL, and formerly of Indianapolis, IN, passed away in Boca Raton on June 20, 2026.

He was born on Oct. 31,1922 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to the late Fred and Donna (Koontz) Vogelgesang.

‘Ross’ graduated from Northside HS in Ft. Wayne before attending Purdue University. His studies were interrupted by WW2 where he was a decorated B-17 Bomber Pilot and Flight Officer in the US Army Air Corps (now the US Air Force).

After the war, he graduated from the University of Illinois-School of Landscape Architecture with highest honors in 1949.

His distinguished career included positions with the State of Indiana Parks Dept. and the City of Indianapolis where he was the Executive Director of Planning & Zoning for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife F. Ellen Vogelgesang of Ft. Wayne and Indianapolis.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 4-6pm at Flanner Buchanan - Broad Ripple, Indianapolis, IN.

His Service will be held on July 9, 2026 at 11 am at King of Glory Lutheran Church, Carmel, IN.

A viewing will be held prior to the service.

Ross will be laid to rest thereafter at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery next to his wife with full military honors.

Ross is survived by his sons and their spouses: Paul (Brooke) Vogelgesang, Laguna Hills, CA and Philip (Susan) Vogelgesang, Boca Raton FL; his grandchildren Trent Ross Vogelgesang and Stephanie (Matthew) Vogelgesang-Felton, his great grandson Barrett Ross Felton, and honorary grandson, Victor Cortes.

The family invites those who knew Ross to share their memories and condolences online, helping to honor his legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran Child and Family Services of Indiana or to a charity of choice.
