Felix Canal

Felix Canal , 92, of Indianapolis, Indiana, went to be with his Savior on February 8, 2013 at Brookdale Senior Living at Willow Lake. He was born on July 19, 1920 in San Martino, high in the Alps of northern Italy to Oreste and Clementina Canal. He was united in marriage with Ada Jenny (Ghigo) Canal on September 12, 1948, who survives. He has three children: Carol Jean (Dan) King, Lynn Susan (Tom) Kennell, and David Felix (Terry) Canal. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Ariel (Micah) Kennell Boehr, Stephanie Kennell, Lesli Kennell (James Green), Jenna (Bryan) Sheward, Ben Canal, Chad Canal, Todd Canal, Nick King, and Eric King. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elsa Canal, and his brother, Oreste Canal. Felix attended the University of Torino, Italy, and then came to the United States in 1947 and studied at Goshen College, Goshen, IN. He then moved to New York City, and later settled in Edgewater Park, New Jersey. His vocations included banking, managing and owning a carpet warehousing business, working in insurance, and serving at a boys' residential training center. Felix and Ada followed their children to the Midwest, settling in Indianapolis in 1988. He was an avid Boy Scout Leader for many years, receiving the Silver Beaver Award for leadership. He also served as a school board member for the Edgewater Park School system. He was a lifelong member of the Waldensian Church, and enjoyed teaching Sunday school, serving as a lay preacher in Italy, teaching the communicant's class, and sharing his faith. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Waldensian Society for thirty years. He faithfully attended the Zionsville Presbyterian Church for the last twelve years. Some of his favorite hobbies include woodcutting, vegetable gardening, singing, talking with people, and spending time with family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Waldensian Society (www.waldensian.org). Checks may be mailed to AWS, PO Box 398, Valdese, NC 28690. Friends may call on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 11:00AM – 1:00PM at the Zionsville Presbyterian Church, 4775 W 116th St Zionsville, Indiana 46077. (www.zpc.org ). A light lunch will be available at this time. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00PM at the church. A private family burial service will follow.
