F. Eugene "Gene" Hoffman

F. Eugene Hoffman (Gene), 95, of Speedway, passed peacefully at home on October 19, 2023. He was born June 14, 1928, at his grandmother, Harriet Gangloff’s home near Logansport, Indiana to Lester and Olive Fern (Gangloff) Hoffman. He attended school in his hometown of Valparaiso, Indiana and graduated from Valparaiso High School. He then graduated from Valparaiso University in 1950.

After being employed by McGill Manufacturing Co. of Valparaiso for one and a half years, he was the medical transcriber for Central State Hospital of Indianapolis for 36 and a half years, retiring in September 1990.

He and his wife Carol were married in August 1961, and they had two children, Barb and Ken. He was a former member of the Blind Bowlers League of Indianapolis. He and his Leader Dogs Rex and Prince each were a faithful team with him for over 20 years. He has been a member of Broadway United Methodist Church since 1961, serving on committees and getting liturgists for the late service for many years.

He and his wife Carol enjoyed doing many things together. He loved being with his family, doing things around the home, reading, listening to music, going to plays, musicals, and sporting events. He had an incredible knowledge of a wide range of various interests.

He is survived by his wife Carol, son Ken, grandchildren Ashton Hoffman and Maddie (Chris) Arnett, Carolyn Clark, Sam Clark, nephew Dale Hoffman, great nieces Emily Hoffman and Jill Hoffman, and great-great nephew Bryce Hoffman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lester J. Hoffman, and daughter Barb.

Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway, 2950 N. High School Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46224 on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. An additional visitation will be held at Broadway United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 12:00 - 1:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life to follow at church at 1pm. Burial at Crown Hill Cemetery will immediately follow.
