Evelyn Sue Bartholomew Loux

August 11, 1948 — June 11, 2024

Lowell, Indiana

Evelyn Sue Bartholomew Loux died June 11, 2024, in her home in Lowell, Indiana. She was 75 years old.

Evelyn was born Aug. 11, 1948, to Jimmy and Constance Bartholomew. She grew up in Indianapolis with her nine siblings. In January 1968, she married Christopher Llewellyn Fallowfield, with whom she had two children: Christopher Thomas Fallowfield and Timothy Allen Fallowfield. Evelyn and Christopher later divorced, and Evelyn married Edward Aloysuis Loux in June 1976.

Evelyn was a force in her family, who demonstrated the value of hard work and sacrifice as much as an appetite for fun. If Evelyn wasn’t already laughing and joking with her friends and family, she was in her kitchen preparing something delicious to bring with her when she saw them.

She expressed her love not only with words but with acts of service. After decades of hard work at L.S. Ayers and then a successful tenure at Office Max, Evelyn retired and dedicated most of her time to the American Legion as both a member and leader. She used her talents for cooking, baking, and her easy-going nature to raise money to support and appreciate veterans, as well as her community.

When she wasn’t volunteering her time, she was traveling. Anyone who visited her home or spoke to her could see her love for adventure through her thousands of photos with friends on vacation, or signed headshots of country singers.

Evelyn appreciated the world around her, and surrounded herself with people who did the same. In 2011, she moved to Lowell to live next door to her best friend, Annette. In Lowell, Evelyn continued volunteering her time to the American Legion in Cedar Lake while also making award-winning jams. When she wasn’t collecting ribbons, she was taking care of her chickens she shared with Annette, fishing with her friends, or cuddling up with her dogs.

Evelyn considered animals members of the family, and loved her dogs Elvis, Lucy, Lily, and Zoey, like her own children. Though she lived by herself in Lowell, she always said, “You’re never alone with dogs around.”

As remarkable of a mother as Evelyn was to her children and her pets, she was an even better grandmother. She kept toys at her home for them, watched them overnight, always had their favorite treats on hand, and was ready to listen to them. Evelyn became a great-grandmother in 2014, and continued to show the same unwavering love for every member of her family as it grew.

Evelyn regularly had two-hour conversations with her oldest son, grandchildren, and siblings — showing that she always made time and effort for the people she cared about.

Whether she intended to or not, the lens through which she viewed the world she passed on to her children and her grandchildren. Her lighthearted nature and her giving, adventurous spirit will continue to live on through them and the lives she has touched.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy Bartholomew Sr. and Constance Jeannette Woodward; siblings Jimmy Thomas Bartholomew Jr., Jeffrey Bartholomew, Patricia Bartholomew-Bays, William “Billy” Bartholomew, and Cynthia “Cindy” Bartholomew-Bradfield; and spouses Christopher L. Fallowfield and Edward A. Loux.

Evelyn is survived by siblings Dianna Irvin, Michael Bartholomew, John Bartholomew and Stephen Bartholomew; two children, Chris and Tim; her grandchildren, Kylie Griffis, Thomas Fallowfield, Kaitlin Gebby, and Alex Fallowfield; her great-grandchildren Hadley Reading, Owen Reading, Everett Griffis and Isaac Gebby; and many nieces and nephews.
