Evelyn Louise Skaw (Boyd), 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 30, 2022. She was born in Whittingham, Vermont on July 18, 1937, to the late Merton and Nina Boyd. A true matriarch in every sense of the word, Evelyn was one of 9 children and having grown up on a farm, she learned a strong work ethic early in life that carried with her up to the very date of her passing. As the matriarch of the family, Evelyn was a very independent, strong-willed person who lived life to its fullest and never knew a sedentary moment. She was an amazing mother who always put her kids first and often worked 2 and 3 jobs at a time to provide the best life she could for her children. She showed her love through her actions and was constantly doing things for her family and others and her talents were endless. A good way to describe Evelyn is that she was a builder and “maker” of things, an extremely creative person who literally made her daughter’s wedding dress and could sew just about anything but could also build just about anything with her collection of power tools from building a deck, installing her own windows in her home, building a privacy fence, numerous pieces of furniture, and endless amounts of crafts and keepsakes for her family over the years. Her home and our homes are covered with her memories from all of the many things she did for her family over the years. She was always helping and never stopped working, that was Evelyn, a tireless worker that never complained and always rolled up her sleeves and made things happen. While Evelyn had many impressive accomplishments throughout her life, her greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. Evelyn was widowed when her children were 2 and 4 years old and having never remarried, she worked hard and raised Cara and Ashlee as a single parent. Both children went on to become very successful in their lives and had an amazing role model in Evelyn to model their lives after. Evelyn was also very proud of her eight grandchildren and learned just before her passing that she was going to be a great grandmother. She poured her heart and soul into her family and all those that she loved and was always such an inspiration to anyone that she met. Evelyn was very loved and is going to be missed dearly by all that loved her. As Evelyn was a believer in Christ, we take peace and comfort knowing that she is now spending eternity in Heaven.
Evelyn’s legacy will be carried on through her daughter, Cara McQueen; son, Ashlee Boyd; 8 grandchildren, Evan, Alec, Alaina and Max McQueen; Fiona, Liam, Riley and Rory Boyd. Evelyn had just learned of her first great-grandchild on the way, which gives the family great comfort. In her last days, Evelyn was surrounded by her closest family members and although she is no longer with us in person…she will always live through us as we carry on her legacy.
Evelyn is preceded in death by, Eugene Skaw.
