Evelyn Ellwanger Blume

Evelyn Ellwanger Blume, 96, passed away February 13, 2011. She was born on February 12, 1915 to Arthur “Buck” and Kate Ellwanger. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Neil and Dan Ellwanger, and her two sisters, Kathryn Pershing and Mary Ellwanger. Evelyn attended business college and worked for Healthmor Vacuum Sales, where she met her husband, Kenneth Blume. They married in 1939 and were married 44 years until his death in 1983. They had one daughter, Jane. Evelyn also was Alfred Stokely’s secretary at Stokely Van Camp and a secretary at Continental Optical Company. Evelyn’s family and friends were her life’s treasures; her two grandsons were the lights of her life. Evelyn was known for her hard work, her fun-loving nature, her love of animals, and mostly, for her kindness and compassion for others. She dedicated much of her life to caring for family members and others in need. Evelyn served on the Altenheim Retirement Community Auxiliary for over 30 years. She also did volunteer work for her church, St. Luke United Church of Christ, Meals on Wheels, and the Red Cross Blood Bank. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Jane Blume King Albright (John), her grandsons, Brian King and Andrew King, M.D. (fiancée Cara Robinson, D.O.), and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Saturday, February 19 at 11 AM at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center- Floral Park. Visitation will be on Friday, February 18 from 4-8 PM and also from 10 AM until service time on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hendricks County Humane Society, 52 W. Main Street, Danville, IN 46122, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
