Eugene S. 'Gene' Tsareff

Eugene "Gene" S. Tsareff 84, of Indianapolis, died November 9, 2012. Gene was born on October 13, 1928 in Indianapolis, to Thomas Christoff and Iva May (Pasley) Tsareff. Gene graduated from Speedway High School and Butler University and served our nation in the United States Navy as a radioman during the Korean War on the USS Shannon, DM-25. Gene was employed by General Motors Corporation, Allison Plants with 40 years of service retiring in 1988. Gene was past commander of the Speedway Post 500, The American Legion and an honorary life member. He was Past District Commander of the 11th District of the American Legion and Past Southern Vice-Commander, Department of Indiana, The American Legion. He served 7 years on the Indiana War Memorial Commission, being appointed by Governors Branigan and Whitcomb. He was awarded "Sagamore of the Wabash" by Governor Bayh. Gene was a former certified official for USA Track and Field Association, member of 40 and 8 Society and the USS Shannon Reunion Association. Calling for Gene will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan -Washington Park North , from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with an American Legion service at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Noon, with calling from 11 a.m. to service time, also in the funeral center. Entombment will be in Washington Park North Cemetery. Gene is survived by his wife, Regina M. (Pfeffer) Tsareff, whom he married on July 4, 1953. He is also survived by his sons, Stephen E. (Charlotte) and James R. (Marlene) Tsareff and his grandchildren, Donna (John) Lubbe, David, Olivia and Matthew Tsareff and his great-grandchildren, Hannah and Paige Tsareff and Maxwell Lubbe and his brother, Thomas C.
