Eugene Mcpherson

Eugene McPherson, 89, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2012, in Indianapolis, IN. He was a resident of Westminster Village North. Eugene is survived by his 10 children with Elizabeth McPherson; William (Katharine) McPherson, Gregory (Shirley) McPherson, Elaine McPherson, Charles (Elisa) McPherson, Michael (Teresa) McPherson, James (Kay) McPherson, Kevin McPherson, Linda (Paul) Kern, Kathrine Hite, and David (Christine) McPherson. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Eugene was born October 12, 1922 in North Vernon, IN, to Charles Fitch McPherson and Teresa Magdelena Holderith McPherson. Eugene served 3 years with the US Army's 30th Infantry Division in World War II. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day +5 and was wounded near St. Lo, France. He was hospitalized from July to December, 1944. Eugene was the recipient of many honors and medals including the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Bronze Star. Eugene began his career as a civil servant with the Department of Agriculture in June 1948. He also worked for the Veterans Administration and at the Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison until his retirement in 1983. He later worked for the State of Indiana Public Employee's Retirement Fund until 1993 when he retired and moved to Florida. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts at St. Simon's Catholic Church for many years and served as treasurer. He was an active member of the VFW, Post 7119. His favorite activity was landscaping for the post. Eugene was preceded in death by his brother, Robert, and has 10 half-siblings, Anne Hopkins, Rita Farran, Mary Ley, Victor Ebbing, Raymond Ebbing, Virginia Halcomb, Leo Ebbing, Vince Ebbing, David Ebbing, and Paul Ebbing. A celebration of his life will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday March 30, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan-Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St, Indianapolis 46229. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites. The visitation will be Thursday, March 29, 2012, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
